World Environment Day
On the occasion of World Environment Day, ICT-IOC in collaboration with Plant Lovers’ Association, Bhubaneswar organized a tree plantation ceremony on 4th June in the institute campus. The objective was to spread environmental awareness, acknowledge the dangers that the world may face due to environmental degradation and to find solutions to tackle those dangers. The event was attended by around 70 people out of which 50 were associated with ICT-IOC.
The prominent speakers of the gathering were Mr. Dilip Routray, OSD to Chief Secretary, Government of Odisha, Prof. B.N. Thorat, Director of ICT-IOC, Dr. P.Srinivas, Secretary of Plant Lovers’ Association and former Agricultural Scientist at ICAR and Mr. Pratap Kumar Mohapatra, member of Plant Lovers’ Association. Siddharth Ajith, General Secretary of Technological Association welcomed the guests. Further, the gathering was addressed by Prof. Thorat with some insightful views on CO 2 emissions and greenhouse gases. Then, Mr. Mohapatra took on to the stage followed by Dr. Srinivas who emphasised the work PLA has previously done.
This was followed by a couple of speeches by Suyash Kumar and Utathya Raybarman, winners of a speech contest which was held on the previous day. The winners shared their views on United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 15, Life on Land. The Guest of honour Mr. Dilip Routray then addressed the gathering and shared his views on environmental degradation and his experience on the recently occurred cyclone ‘Fani’. His talk was supported by facts and figures which made it even more incisive. The winners of the speech contest were felicitated by him after his oration followed by vote of thanks.
Concluding the vote of thanks, the guests along with the director planted 3 saplings in the institute lawn. One could see the enthusiasm on everyone’s faces as the saplings were getting planted. The plantation ceremony was succeeded by snacks which everyone enjoyed.
